Explore the High Coast: a guide to great camping

The High Coast, with its magnificent landscape and UNESCO-listed nature, offers a perfect backdrop for a memorable camping holiday. Whether you travel with a caravan, motorhome or prefer the comfort of one cottage, this area has something to offer for everyone. Here's your guide to making the most of your stay.

1. Choose the right campsite

When choosing your campsite in the High Coast, consider the proximity to the region's iconic sights and scenic spots. Here are some suggestions that combine the best possible facilities with access to unique nature experiences:

Facilities and Location

Near Skuleskogens National Park: Campsites located near Skuleskogen National Park offer a unique opportunity to explore one of Sweden's most spectacular natural areas. The park is known for its dramatic landscape with deep forests, rocky coastlines, and the famous Slåttdalsskrevan – a deep gorge between two mountains. Look for campsites that offer good facilities and easy access to hiking trails into the park.

At the High Coastal Bridge: For those interested in both scenic views and technological marvels, camping near the High Coast Bridge is ideal. The bridge offers a fantastic view of the landscape and is an icon of the region. Campsites in this area often provide a good combination of accessibility and scenic locations, perfect for those looking to explore both the coast and the hinterland.

Close to nature

The Wolf Islands: For a more remote experience, consider camping near the Ulvöarna, the largest islands of the High Coast. Accessible by boat, these islands offer unique landscapes, from tranquil beaches to historic fishing villages. Camping here gives you the opportunity to experience the quiet island lifestyle, with close proximity to water and opportunities for kayaking, fishing, and hiking.

From Roth: Another scenic area is Rotsidan, known for its smooth cliffs and long pebble beaches that stretch for several kilometers along the coast. It is an ideal place for those looking for peace and quiet by the sea. Campsites near Rotsidan often offer easy access to these unique natural areas, where you can enjoy sunsets and swim in crystal clear water.

By choosing your campsite with these attractions in mind, you can maximize your experience of the High Coast. Whether you prefer to be near water, forest, or historical sites, there is a place for you. Remember to check the availability of facilities and services at the campsite to ensure a comfortable stay, and plan your trip so that you have time to explore all that this amazing region has to offer.

2. Plan your trip

Booking in advance: Especially during the high season, it is wise to book your place in advance. This ensures that you get the seat you want accommodation and can even help you get one cottage or pitch which has a slightly better location on the campsite.

glow: Höga Kusten extends over a large area with many sights and activities. Plan your route so you can experience as much as possible without having to stress. Bring your camera to capture the beauty of the landscape!

3. Pack Smartly

Adjust by Season: Pack clothing and equipment that is appropriate for the season. Even during the summer months, evenings and nights can be cool. Don't forget rain gear and windproof for the unpredictable weather conditions.

Camping equipment: In addition to standard equipment for your caravan or motorhome, consider bringing bikes, hiking gear, or fishing equipment to fully enjoy the High Coast's outdoor activities.

4. Respect the Environment

Keep Clean and Quiet: Be aware of your surroundings and other campers. Use the designated facilities for waste and keep the noise level down, especially in the evening.
